Shane Osborn Award

Courage, integrity, honesty, humility and faith are all words that have been used to describe Lieutenant Shane J. Osborn, who on April 1, 2001 courageously piloted a U.S. reconnaissance plane to a safe crash landing after it was hit by two Chinese fighters. Subsequently, Lt. Osborn endured an aggressive interrogation and, along with the rest of his crew, eleven days of captivity by the Chinese Government. Shane Osborn was raised in Norfolk, Nebraska, and is a 1996 graduate of the University of Nebraska, which he attended on a Naval ROTC scholarship. The Nebraska Alumni Association is pleased to honor Lt. Osborn annually by recognizing a student who demonstrates similar characteristics in his or her daily life. The award is not limited to students with ROTC involvement. Nominations for this award may be made by current students, faculty, staff or alumni. The winner of the award will be honored at the May awards banquet and presented a $500 stipend.
